Aging in Place Arkansas
Find Out What’s Involved
Keep Your Own Home and Stay Independent As You Age
Dorothy’s Story
Dorothy loved wandering through her house each morning, watering her peace lilies, azaleas and aloe vera. Yet as she got older, she found she was having more slips and sometimes even falls. Was she going to have to give up her home? But after her local care agency installed non-slip floors, Dororthy could keep up the daily ritual that she loved, worry-free.
Michael’s Story
Michael’s memory had been an issue for a little while. What made it harder was that his wife — and many of his friends — had now passed away. So not only was he lonely, but he also didn’t have much conversation to help keep him focused. He started to feel pretty low. Then he was matched to a local care companion, Emily. She visited once or twice a week to shoot the breeze, play canasta and read aloud his favorite John Grisham novels. Just simple everyday things, yet they made all the difference.
90% of seniors want to stay in their home as they age
We’re here to make that possible.
Our association can connect you to elder care in Arkansas near you. We believe that elders should be able to remain in their community if they choose — and be given all the support they need to do so. This way, families and aging loved ones don’t have to be parted.
Aging in place means:
- Staying in the house you love, while getting support with mobility, companionship or personal care.
- Keeping close to your family and friends for as long as you want.
- Remaining near to your neighbors, community and favorite places.
- Being more independent — you can keep living life on your terms, with support and home adaptations as you need them.
- Staying healthier and safer than in communal living.
- Saving on costs.
Seniors deserve the option of aging in place. So Arkansas Association Of Area Agencies on Aging can connect you to the best care and support in your local community. Whether you’re an elder person or a family member offering care, we’re here for you. Let’s talk.
